Review of Gone with the West
James Caan, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Stefanie Powers star in this film. The story
revolves around a notorious character in town who has stolen Caan’s character’s
cattle and then molested the character portrayed by Stefanie Powers, Little
Moon. Powers and Caan then attempt to exact revenge on the bad guy (portrayed by
Aldo Ray) by destroying the guy’s town. Like most films of this type there is
plenty of gunfighting and Sammy Davis, Jr. plays a gunslinger who is hired by
Ray. One interesting fact that many viewers might not be aware of is that there
was no special training needed or even a stand-in required for those exciting
scenes with Sammy Davis, Jr.
In ‘real’ life he was already a fairly quick draw. Some reports, in fact,
indicate that he might have been one of the fastest around during this time
period. Be sure to watch him close during the fight scenes and you’ll see that
it’s really him and not a stunt man.
With a cast of big names and plenty of gun fights along with comedic relief,
this is one film you will absolutely love. The first rate cast really brings a
lot to this film. You’ll be on the edge of your seat as the main characters
attempt to exact revenge for the wrong that has been done to them. Without
giving too much away and spoiling the ending, you will definitely feel
everything turned out just the way it was supposed to by the end.
