Review of Diamante Lobo (Gods Gun)
This is absolutely one of the most unique Westerns probably ever printed on
film. It’s no doubt a spaghetti western type of film but what makes it really
unique is that it was filmed in Israel and as there probably aren’t a lot of
those, this film is really worth watching. The angle of the film is produced in
such a way that despite the fact it wasn’t filmed in a typical western locale,
it will appeal to most Western fans.
The plot of the film revolves around a preacher (portrayed by Van Cleef) who is
hot down by a gang led by Palance. Unfortunately there is a witness to the event
and after seeing the horrible crime he can’t help but travel to Mexico for the
purpose of finding the twin brother of the man who is murdered. The twin brother
is an excellent gunman who had turned from his former life and make a promise to
never use his gun for kill again. After hearing about his brother; however, the
gunman (also played by Van Cleef) decides he must avenge his brother’s death. He
vows he will try to do it without shooting the gang; however.
This is definitely a film worth seeing, especially if you like this particular
genre of Western. Van Cleef does an excellent job of portraying the twin brother
and Palance’s performance is every bit what you would expect it to be.
