Review of Return of the Street Fighter

Taking its cue from the first movie, this sequel doesn’t disappoint in the least. If anything, the plot of this movie is even better than the first. In addition to excellent characterization and storyline, the choreography is just brilliant and truly well handled. The action and adventure scenes are everything you would want them to be, although it should be pointed out that they are somewhat violent and perhaps not appropriate for younger viewers. Several scenes contain flashbacks to the first film that work quite well, allowing you to really get into the film even if you somehow missed the first one.

The plot revolves around Sony Chiba as he returns to serve as an assassin for hire who takes on a large group of entirely new villains. The film starts off with an awesome fight scene involving the police that clearly sets the pace for the rest of the film. The arch enemy from the first film also returns for this film, continuing on his quest to seek out vengeance again Tsurugi, portrayed by Chiba. A subplot also surfaces in the film involving a disgraced policeman who eventually seeks help from Tsurugi. Since Ratnose died in the last film, this time around Tsurugi is assisted by a young woman but as it turns out there is a bit of a surprise involving that as well. If you loved the first movie, you won’t want to miss this one.
