Review of Royal Wedding
If you’re a Fred Astaire fan you’ll absolutely love this film. The storyline
of the film starts off with a brother and sister dance team, Tom and Ellen
Bowen. After their show closes in New York, their agent books them for a gig in
London at exactly the same time as the Royal Wedding. During their travel to
London by cruise ship, Ellen (played by Jane Powell) meets Lord John Brindale
and becomes involved with him. As a result, she ends up missing a rehearsal.
Meanwhile her brother Tom (played by Astaire) puts on a scene where he is
dancing with some gym equipment and a hat rack.
After they actually arrive auditions are held and it is during this time that
Tom meets a woman named Sara. As time progresses both siblings have some
quandaries over their romantic interests. There are plenty of dance scenes
featured the dapper and skilled Astaire, including a scene where he dances on
the ceiling and the walls of his hotel room.
Like most films of this genre, it has a happy ending and leaves everyone feeling
happy and satisfied. Not only are the dance numbers fabulous but there is also
plenty of light comedy to keep you amused all the way throughout the film. In
addition, the musical score is one that you will treasure for a long time, as
with most classic movies. A few of the songs in the film include “Ev’ry Night at
Seven,” “Sunday Jumps,” “Open Your Eyes,” “The Happiest Day of My Life” and “How
Could you Believe Me When I Said I Love You When you Know I’ve Been a Liar All
My Life.”
