Review of Sword of Lancelot (Lancelot and
Guinevere)
If you are a fan of Knights of the Round Table, Camelot and ladies you will
love this film. Naturally the storyline of Lancelot and Guinevere is familiar to
most; however, this particular version of the film provides excellent insight
into the couple as well as the love triangle that developed between King Arthur,
his wife and his knight. The film begins when Lancelot is actually is sent to
bring Guinevere to King Arthur, who of course she eventually marries.
Interestingly enough the film was directed by Cornel Wilde; who also starred as
Lancelot in the film. In this interesting version of the much loved tale,
Lancelot is portrayed as a Frenchman. Wilde’s wife, Jean Wallace, portrays the
lovely Guinevere. Arthur is portrayed by Brian Aherne. Aherne’s approach of his
role is one of the best around. His portrayal of Arthur shows the development of
Arthur from a carefree ruler to the painstaking realization that his wife has
not only been unfaithful but the object of her desire is his own knight.
Both men and women will love this film. It not only provides an excellent
portrayal of the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere but also provides a
lot of action as well in the form of numerous fight and battle scenes.
