Review of Cathy's Curse
This movie, also sometimes billed under Cathy’s Curse, is about a young girl
with a very serious problem. She has this favorite doll and unfortunately the
doll has been killing people. The movie starts off; however, way back in 1947
when a woman abandons her husband and daughter and leaves with her son. The
husband goes off with the daughter to look for his missing wife and son;
however, he ends up having a wreck and both he and the daughter are killed. The
movie skips ahead to thirty-something years later when a man brings his wife and
daughter to this really spooky house.
While she’s looking around the house the daughter, Cathy, finds a doll. Now, the
doll is actually quite ugly and you get the feeling from the beginning that
something isn’t quite right with this doll. As it turns out, the man in question
is none other than the young boy who was taken by his mother except that now he
is all grown up with a family of his own and he has returned to his childhood
home. Shortly after his daughter, Cathy, finds the doll some really strange
things start to happen. The man’s long dead sister begins to take possession of
his daughter and then people start either going crazy or popping up dead.
You definitely get the feeling that this film was inspired by The Exorcist and
the like but if you like those types of films, it’s a pretty good way to spend a
couple of hours. Some of the scenes are really creepy; especially those with the
doll.
